Shorty and Anderson Score Big at Daytona!
Coach Seiji personal training clients Andrew Short, Jason Anderson and Hunter Hewitt all made the annual pilgrimmage to the hallowed ground of Daytona International Speedway, one of the most anticipated rounds of the 2011 Monster Energy Supercross Series. This historic venue and unique track made for exciting and brutal racing. Shorty posted his best result of the season with a gutsy 4th place ride while Anderson overcame adversity to turn in an impressive 6th place ride. Hewitt fell victim to an unfortunate crash in the main event but was uninjured and is looking forward to Indiannpolis.
#29 Red Bull/KTM Factory Racing rider Andrew Short gated well in his heat race and continued his amazing heat race consistency with a 6th palce finish to easily transfer to the main event. #65 One Industries/Pro Circuit rider Hunter Hewitt also gated well and firmly established a 5th place position within the first lap and maintained that finish for another strong heat race performance. #156 Rockstar Energy/Suzuki rider Jason Anderson wasn’t lucky enough to gate well in his heat race and rounded the first turn near the back of the field. Anderson steadily picked off riders and with one lap left to go secured the 9th and final transfer position.
The main events this season have been extremely stacked and super exciting and the Daytona mains would prove no different. The minute plus lap times combined with the rough track conditions placed a priority on fitness. Riders seemed to look forward to the challenges and the crowd anticipated some epic battles; neither would walk away dissappointed. Shorty would again gate well in his main and rode perfectly during the first five laps of the race in 3rd place; after a mistake by Stewart he moved up to second where he would stay until the halfway point of the almost 30 minute long event. Shorty succumbed to the incredible charges of Reed and Dungey to fall to 4th place which he would defend with gutsy riding until the checkered flag. Anderson and Hewitt didn’t get the start they hoped for and emerged mid field after the tight first turn. Hewitt would suffer a wild get off on a tricky on-off section that would severely twist his front end and would struggle with making his way around the treacherous track for the entire main event. Anderson would pick his way through the field, advancing steadily from 12th place after the first lap to 6th place at the checkers. Anderson rode extremely well to achieve this finishing position; what makes it incredible is that he did it with his bike stuck in 3rd gear for the entire event as he was hit on the start rendering his shift lever useless!
Onward to Indianapolis!
